Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply when you use the TAQWASTEPS app for Android, the TAQWASTEPS web app and this website. By creating an account or using TAQWASTEPS, you agree to them, and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use TAQWASTEPS.

1. The Service

TAQWASTEPS helps Muslims build daily habits: tracking the five daily prayers, Dhikr, the Quran and Tahajjud, prayer time reminders, keeping away from social media and games at prayer times, a scoreboard for encouragement, and community help.

2. Who May Use TAQWASTEPS

You must be at least 13 years old. The app does not accept a date of birth that shows a younger age.
You must give your true date of birth. TAQWASTEPS counts your Salah history from the day you turned seven (Sunan Abi Dawud 495); this is only where your own history begins.

3. Your Account

One person, one account. Do not share your account or make accounts for others without their knowledge.
Keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
The scoreboard. When you create an account you agree to appear on the TAQWASTEPS scoreboard, for brothers only or for sisters only: your name as on your account, your country, your Salah, Tahajjud and Quran scores and, if you have one, your picture. Everyone who has chosen Brother or Sister is on it until they delete their account; brothers and sisters never see each other. See section 5 of the Privacy Policy.
Brother or Sister is chosen once; only TAQWASTEPS can change it, on request.
You can delete your account at any time: see Delete Your Account.

4. What You Post: Names, Pictures, Promotions and Notices

Your name and picture are shown to others, and so are the promotions and community notices you submit. They must not be:

offensive, hateful, abusive or threatening
misleading, false, or a scam
pretending to be someone else, or using someone's picture without permission
immodest, or against Islamic values and haya
unlawful, or someone else's work you have no right to share

TAQWASTEPS reviews what is reported and every promotion and notice before it is shown, and can refuse, pause or remove any of it, rename a scoreboard name or remove a picture.

Reporting. You can report a name or picture on the scoreboard, and any promotion or community notice, from the app (Report). Reports go to the admins and the person is not told who reported them. You can also hide a person on your own boards; that stays on your phone.

5. Promotions

A promotion is reviewed before it is shown; the price is shared with you after approval.
You pay TAQWASTEPS outside the app, by UPI or bank transfer, before it goes live. TAQWASTEPS takes no payments in the app.
Refunds: a full refund if TAQWASTEPS cannot run a paid promotion; no refund once it has gone live.
TAQWASTEPS does not guarantee any result (views, taps or sales).
TAQWASTEPS can end a promotion that breaks these Terms.
You may have at most two items running or waiting at a time.

6. Community Appeals

For a missing person you confirm that you are family or have the family's permission. For medical help or a donation appeal you give proof, which only the admins see.
TAQWASTEPS checks the proof but cannot guarantee every claim. Please verify before donating.
TAQWASTEPS does not collect or handle donations. Anyone who gives money does so directly, at their own judgement, and TAQWASTEPS is not responsible for it.

7. Premium

Premium includes the Tahajjud alarm, Salah protection (app blocking), the Arabic clock and clock-with-seconds widgets, premium wallpapers and sounds, and the Night and Gold and Parchment themes. Everything else, including the scoreboard, is free.
Premium is given with redeem codes, entered in Settings → Premium. A code is tied to the account that redeems it and cannot be sold, traded or transferred. Codes may expire, and each says how long its Premium lasts.
When Premium ends, the Premium features stop working and a Premium theme gives way to Green and Gold; your settings are kept for when Premium returns.

Purchases through Google Play. Premium cannot be bought in Google Play yet. When it can, the terms for those purchases will be added here.

8. Salah Protection

Salah protection pauses social media and game apps from 5 minutes before the Adhan until 10 minutes after the Iqamah, or until you mark that prayer. It needs usage access and display over other apps, which you grant yourself.
An emergency unlock opens the paused apps for 5 minutes, once in each prayer time (three times for Jumu'ah).
It is voluntary and can be switched off. We are not responsible for missed messages or notifications from paused apps.

9. Disabling and Ending Accounts

TAQWASTEPS may disable or delete an account that breaks these Terms, for example for offensive names or pictures, scams, or misuse. A disabled account cannot sign in and is hidden from the scoreboards. If you think this was a mistake, write to taqwasteps@gmail.com from your account's email address and we will look at it again.

10. Use You Agree Not To

Using TAQWASTEPS for anything unlawful
Trying to break into, overload, reverse engineer or change the app or its servers
Making fake accounts, or using the scoreboard or reports to harass anyone

11. Disclaimers

Prayer times are calculated from your location with a standard method and may differ from your local masjid. Please follow your masjid; you can enter its Adhan and Iqamah times and TAQWASTEPS will use them.
The Tahajjud alarm and Salah protection depend on your phone, its battery and its settings (some phone makers stop apps in the background). We do our best, but cannot guarantee that they always work.
Religious content shows its sources (each hadith, ayah and dhikr with its reference), but TAQWASTEPS is not a fatwa and not a substitute for qualified scholars.
TAQWASTEPS is provided "as is". We are not liable for losses from its use, including prayers missed because of a technical problem, to the extent the law allows.

12. The Quran and Other Content

The TAQWASTEPS name, logo, design and code belong to TAQWASTEPS. The Arabic text of the Quran is the Uthmani text of the Tanzil Project (tanzil.net), shown exactly as published. The English translation is Saheeh International. These remain the work of their own publishers.

Recitation. The Quran recitation you hear in the app (by Maher Al-Muaiqly, Yasser Al-Dosari and Ahmad Al-Ajmi) comes from everyayah.com, streamed one ayah at a time or downloaded to your phone when you choose. The app names the reciter and links to everyayah.com wherever recitation is offered. Recitation is always free: listening, streaming, downloads and every reciter are never part of Premium. The recordings remain the work of the reciters and of everyayah.com.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the courts of Bengaluru.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here and change the date at the top, and tell you in the app when a change matters to you. Using TAQWASTEPS after a change means you accept it.
